Weird Pop-Up or Page When Paying Online or Visiting Sites
Weird Pop-Up or Page When Paying Online or Visiting SitesIf you are purchasing something and click a link to a weird payment pop-up, stop what you are doing and back out, closing the site before any malware gets downloaded.
If you are clicking a link to a website or store and get a page that says there is some sort of danger – close the page immediately. I have clicked on reputable looking links, even from a Google search site and then I get a warning for no apparent reason.
This is happening more and more from different sources – even my favorite grocery website has had it happen. AI is making it easier for scammers to get your information and to replicate real store sites.
In any case, if anything looks off, stop the purchase, stop the page load, stop letting it do anything and close the page immediately.
Just now a news site I am subscribed to “started to do a virus scan,” but I do not have that virus protection on this laptop, so I closed the tab right away. It was just fake “scan” to scare people with. These things just start randomly.
It is probably a good idea to close out all open windows and tabs – save them as a group bookmark and name the group tab so you can refer to it when you need those websites. Any of the tabs could start acting funny and go to a problem site, without you knowing. If you have time to save the tabs individually it’s even better because you will know each page purpose. Otherwise, you might redo the common purpose tabs into one window for a collective tab bookmark, like “2026 news” or “to shop at.” I’ve not had those issues since I did the above. But I am ready if it starts back up.
