Pink Screen on iPhone
My iPhone was working fine and suddenly the screen turned from white to pink, while I was looking at a store website. I tried making calls and they failed. One call dropped after being on call – twice. I did a reset and was able to call again, so I called Apple to see what was happening with the pink screen. After having me check things out, they set me up with Genius Bar appointment at a 3rd party store. I first backed up my phone, of course, in case, plus memorized my iTunes password in case the phone needed to be rest to original or transfer to a new phone.
I took my phone in and he researched it and played with it, even took it behind the wall to show another tech. He said it was called the “pink screen of death” – meaning the phone is on the way to failure – sooner or later. He said it is likely a hardware issue. My phone has always been in a case and has no damage. He restarted it after a reset, and the apple logo was white – I pointed that out, but he said it will turn pink, and it did.
He said he can replace the screen for $280 but suggested he should not. Apple would require the phone be kept at that tech store until a screen comes in from an order, since none were in stock – so I might be without a phone for up to 2 weeks. He said even if a new screen works, the hardware issue will eventually make it go pink again. It might not even return the screen to normal.
He made me an appointment at an Apple Store and suggested it is very likely that they will replace the phone for free because there is no damage at all to the phone. It was always in a case and no scratches or cracks on the screen. He suggested that I wipe clean the bottom, which looked a bit dirty from being in my purse and pocket – that is the only part of the phone which was exposed from holes in the phone case. That way they can’t blame me for doing something to my phone.
So, I went to the Apple Store appointment and a tech went into my settings and got my pink screen back to normal (he did not know why it went pink on its own but shrugged his shoulders and said “technology”). There were a couple more issues but we could not replicate them at the time (“you can’t fix it if it ain’t broke”) so said I should call Apple support line and ask them to look into those issues while I am also on my Macbook. He could not find an issue similar to mine.
If you get a pink screen, try going into settings, go to Accessibility, then Display and Text Size. In that area is Color Filters – even if it says “off” click to go there and toggle the switch on to off. If your color goes back to normal, then it was a glitch, and your phone might be just fine. If it stays pink, call Apple support, and explain it all to them, including what you tried. Then see if they can help you or send you to an Apple tech. Try to go to an Apple store so you don’t have an extra trip to a 3rd party who might give you bum advice, like with me.
