Multiple Funding Voicemails of Same Message
I had multiple voicemails from phone numbers very close to each other – they were about a $53,000 funding package that I was supposed to reply to. I, of course, blocked the numbers and deleted the messages.
I just shudder to think of the number of people who would fall for such. I don’t know what their next step would be, but going by what my dad fell for, I could make some guesses.
Dad has been asked to send in a processing fee before getting the money. That means people are sending the scammer this fee and will never get the money. Their payment methods might be compromised, as in they use a credit card which can draw out more money after initial “fee.” If sending a check, they can whitewash the amount off and write in a larger number, plus they have your bank information and account number.
Dad has been asked to give his account number to deposit the check into. Thankfully, he asked me to talk to them first by adding me onto the call. I laid into the scammer and said to never call him again.
If the scammer wants an application done online, they might send you a link that puts a virus into your computer. Then it could hack into your computer or take it over for a ransom (yes, both issues happened to my dad).
Don’t believe the promises on voicemail messages, especially when they are telling you that your application or such was approved – you likely did not make such application or request. Just block the call, though you will get more of them from other numbers, I started putting them as a contact called “scam to block” because my blocking limit has been reached. PR
