Unsubscribe from emails? Don’t!
I’ve clicked on “unsubscribe” (sometimes it is hard to find that link), but it isn’t a good option.
By clicking on an unsubscribe link, it proves to the sender that your email is a legitimate one and then it can be sold or used to subscribe to more email lists. (Believe me, one particular political character kept sending me texts and emails – I would try to “unsubscribe” and then more came from other numbers, even if it was months later and it always said I subscribed within the last couple days). They were also always using someone else’s name other than mine.
I have clicked on “unsubscribe” and ended up on a “risky” site with my laptop telling me to exit the site immediately. I would probably infect my laptop with some virus. I exited immediately then blocked the sender.
Another time I clicked to “unsubscribe” and it took me to a site that had me opted into a series of types of emails and I had click off each one. If you have reached your blocking limit, then report it as scam if you have a feature to do that.
It’s much better to just block the sender and not engage at all. There might be more problems caused from clicking “unsubscribe” – and you will likely decrease the propagation of more coming from the same source (decrease but unlikely to remove them all – they will change the email or text/phone number incoming source but not as many as if you engage with them because they don’t get a confirmation that your contact information goes to a real contact).
