Pain Relief Alternative After surgery I was on opioids for a few months and after the first few weeks (I was told to take them regularly because if the pain came first, it would be very hard to bring it back under control if I took the medication after – so be proactive at the beginning). I worked on weaning them down as I could bear more pain.
As my initial pain got better, later I got more pain in the surgery area. The doctor and surgeon offices told me I can take Extra Strength Arthritis Tylenol, or if bad pain to take 2 Ibuprofen with 4 regular Tylenol (Acetaminophen) with food (dosage hard on the stomach). The combination one – he said it’s as effective as the opioid but no other opioid effects.
I started physical therapy again to help with the new pain – the muscles at the lumbar site were very tight. It took a lot of massage, exercises (lots of thoracic muscle build-up to help take the load off the lumbar area), dry needling, and such to help. I got more mobile in the area until I finally was able to do toe touches (one of the goals). I still had pain I needed to manage so I did the above as needed though only once a day and not every 8 hours).
I finally made a turning point and had some good days without pain or with less pain. The therapist figured it was time to strengthen the lumbar muscles. She had me increase the squat weights and dead weight lifts to much heavier, 3 sets of ten each (resting between), 3 times a day. At the end of each set my heart rate should be up.
The pain after starting the new routine was awful – muscles were so sore. I went to acupuncture to see if she could help. She put electric stimulation on the needles in the lumbar area, and then did muscle manipulation. On the 2nd visit she asked what I took for pain and when I told her she said that is hard on the kidneys and other organs. She looked through her book and found a Chinese herbal blend that would be better for pain without causing other issues. I took the little balls (they are coated with licorice) and between her help and the herbs, I felt better for the rest of the day. I took them again the next day and still felt better from pain, even after the weights. I highly recommend the formulation for a pain alternative.
I’m sure there are other alternatives to pain control – TENS, heat, ice, Epsom salt baths, floats, acupuncture, chiropractor manipulation, other herb blends and such. To stay away from the harsh medications is overall better for total health. This Is what the herbal blend Is that Is helping me:Look for Plum Flower brand, Solitary Hermit formula PR
